The story of the Ska-Punk formation
NO RESPECT
Göttingen, Germany, so far...
...to be continued
No Respect started off as a pure Punkrock band in the eighties.. (To tell you the truth, today nobody exactly knows when they met first.)
Anyway, Chris (Guitar & Vocals) and Sauer (Drums&Vocals) used to be part of the band since this time. Stevie (Bass & Vocals) joined the band a few years later.
They spent nearly all of their time playing in clubs and youth centers all over Germany for years.
About 8 years ago the band felt the need of change in music, so they decided to search for other instruments and characters joining the band.
Through luck and suprising circumstances they found the brass section with Trumpet, Trombone and Saxophone. From this time on, the music of NO RESPECT changed from rough Punkrock to a kind of fast but melodical Ska Punk which is not easy to classify. One could say it?s a mixture of styles, in the end NO RESPECT have their own way of doing their stuff.
During the years many things changed, lifestyle, music...etc., but some of the important things didn´t, as for an example the friendship and left wing political ideas which have always been very important for the band. NO RESPECT always played the music they liked, no matter if it was succsessful or not, the lyrics of the band (nearly all of them are written by Chris) are dealing with the topics of our daily life, and every member of the band will say that they exactly express the way they think and feel about it. Main aspects are antifashism, the fight against state control, trying to resist all the lies and the oppression, others are love, work and life itself. To the band the message is as important as the music.
Propably this is the difference between NO RESPECT and a pushed up, success programmed mainstream band. During the years a lot of recordings were published. About 5 Demo Tapes and then the first CD ?excuse my smile? with 14 tracks on it.
Suprisingly for the band this CD was sold about 4000 times in Germany only, the LP about 2000 times. Many gigs all over Europe followed. In 1998 they did a tour through the Basque country and in 1999 NO RESPECT visited Italy.
Two CD´s followed: "Tunes of decline" and recently "Confidence".
We´ll see what the future will bring...
Enjoy...and keep on keeping on!
